Plot[]

Many years ago, Akiyama Makuro (Anthony Hopkins) started an intergalactic police station called the Hero Factory. The first thing he did was employ over 11,000 employees. One of them, named Zib (Dan Aykroyd) was commissioned to be Mr. Makuro's assistant in commanding a team called the Alpha Team. Once constructing a hero named Preston Stormer (Ryan Reynolds) they send him off to be with Von Ness (Donald Sutherland) and Thresher (Clark Gregg). However, their first mission goes awry, and Von Ness turns to villainy.

In the present, Stormer commands a team consisting of his friends Stringer (Richard Madden), and Bulk (Eric Bana), and hotheaded rookies Surge (Robert Sheehan), and Breez (Melissa Benoist). Supervillain Vapour robs a bank, and the heroes show up to thwart his plans. However, Stormer craves to go on more dangerous missions in the galaxy. However, to stop the supervillains, they need a team of six or more. Zib, now mission commander of Alpha Team since Mr. Makuro retired, builds a new hero against Stormer's requests, and Furno (Joel McHale) is born.

Stormer, Bulk, and Stringer all take Furno on his first mission to guard some explosives, having him stay on the HeroCraft. When they land, Rotor (David Harbour) attacks first. Stormer pieces together Xplode (Esai Morales) is also there. Xplode ditches Rotor, leaving him to get arrested by Furno. Rotor almost fires a stunner at Furno, allowing him to get away.

Furno, still torn about losing Rotor, tries to perfect some new moves, taking a toll on his health. After a brief training session, Stormer takes Furno, Surge, and Breez to a nearbly planet inhabited by Xplode and Rotor. Stormer is knocked unconscious, so Furno fights Rotor on his bike, eventually arresting him.

Meanwhile, Bulk and Stringer are sent to a prison planet and are attacked by Corroder (Michael B. Jordan). Surge and Breez are sent to join them as Furno recharges. When Corroder threatens to kill Surge via falling beams, Bulk saves him, but he's trapped. Corroder sees this as an opportunity to kill the heroes, but they have set up a force field which will drain their hero cores.

Furno finishes his charge, and requests to Stormer he go into action and fight Corroder. While reluctant, Zib convinces Stormer to let him go. Furno puts his own against Corroder, but he gets away. Breez returns and frees Bulk from the beams. They recharge Bulk and prepare for their next mission, flying to a police station in jeopardy. However, Chief Drax, the police captain, has turned evil, and this is the entrance for villain Meltdown (Sam Rockwell), as he hits Stormer with his toxic tentacle.

The tentacle has turned Stormer evil as well. Furno, Bulk, and Stringer go after him, fighting all throughout the Hero Factory. Stormer escapes, and Furno goes after him while the other heroes go to find a core. Furno is somehow able to revert Stormer back to his normal self.

With all the villains gotten away, Stormer believes that they're working for a bigger threat as they travel to New Stellac City, and his fears are answered when Corroder returns with a powerful villain named Thunder, who can fire nebula blasts. Zib sends Furno, Surge, and Breez to the city, where Xplode and Meltdown show up. Suddenly, Stormer, Bulk, and Stringer show up, and this is when Von Ness comes in, activating a black hole and disarming the heroes.

Stormer decides to go into the black hole. Furno goes with him against commands. Stormer briefly reprimands Furno, but they are cut off when Von Ness shows up. Von Ness goes by Von Nebula and reveals his evil plan. Meanwhile, the other heroes take down Von Nebula's goons. Back in the black hole, Stormer and Furno break out some thruster rings, and Von Nebula tries to take them. The two heroes trick Von Nebula and Furno destroys the black hole, killing Von Nebula in the process by sucking him into his own staff.

The two heroes exit the black hole and make a triumphant return. Von Nebula's goons are put into villain storage, along with the staff. Stormer finally accepts Furno into the team, as they ponder over the energy of Von Ness' staff.

In a post credits scene, the black hole creates an entire new universe, populated by sentient animals.
